Commission Rules

Here is where you can find the rules, guidelines, processes, and pricing for commissions. Make sure to read it all before submitting your proposal!

  • Step 1: After submitting your Commission Proposal, you’ll receive an email from me either accepting or rejecting your proposal. [See why your proposal may be rejected in the Content Guidelines section.] If accepted, we’ll have a discussion [over email] about any specifics not covered in your commission description and finalizing the concept. At this point you will receive an estimated price for your commission. [This will not include shipping or tax.] Before I begin working on your commission, you will receive an invoice for a down payment of 50% of the estimated price. Once this is paid, I’ll begin on the first sketch.

Step 2: The sketching step is where you can fine tune your commission. [Or not if you want to give me free reign. I’m cool with that.] You will receive, at most, a total of three sketches. After each sketch you can give me feedback and suggestions. After the third sketch, which should be approximately what you’re after, I’ll begin painting! If you want any major changes, make sure you get it in before this point.

Step 3: Entering the painting step is where I really get to work. If requested, I will send progress shots as I work but keep in mind that, once I begin painting, I will not accept major changes. When I’m done painting, I’ll give your painting a good varnish. The finish of the varnish is up to you but, if you have no preference, it will be a satin finish.

Step 4: Now to get this commission into your hands! After it’s varnished, I’ll send you a watermarked image of your piece along with your invoice for the remaining payment. Once I receive the payment, your commission will be mailed off! All done!

  • Here’s a breakdown of my pricing.

    Baseline Price:

Think of this part kind of like a ‘build-your-own pizza’. The base parts of the commission, such as the size, surface, and medium, have flat rates which will stack on top of each other.

    Painting Surface:

—Small Paper: Smaller than 9”x12”- $4

    —Medium Paper: 9”x12”- $6

    —Large Paper: 11”x14”- $7

—Extra Large Paper: Larger than 11”x14”- $9

    —9”x12” Canvas (sheet)- $7

    —12”x16” Canvas (sheet)- $11

    —Wood (Panel): 6”x6”- $6

Other surfaces (ex. Stretched canvases) and sizes available on request for an additional fee of the price of material acquisition cost [material price + any shipping involved]

    Work Rate:

This part holds the main cost of the commission process. In order to be properly compensated for my time, labor, and skill, I charge my work hourly. Only the time spent directly and specifically working on your commission is counted in this charge.

—Standard: $38/hour covers sketching, editing, painting, and varnishing as well as any minor material costs such as sketching materials, paint, painting tape, brushes, and varnish.

—Oversized Work: There is an additional $2/hour charge for works exceeding 12”x16” as the space needed to work on and store these pieces limits the work I can do on any other projects.

    Add-Ons:

These are the additional fees and charges added to the cost at the end. These charges depend on your location.

    —Shipping and Handling

    —Tax

  • Payment:

As stated in the Process section, 50% of the estimated price is required before my work begins. This is a non-refundable deposit. This protects me, as the artist, by ensuring that my work will be properly compensated.

After the completion of the commission and before I ship it out, the remaining payment is due. This price will be calculated as:

Total commission price – your deposit + shipping & tax = your due payment

Unless given a valid reason, such as unforeseen medical expenses, natural disaster, and or sudden loss of income, I reserve the right to ban you from future commissions should you refuse to pay for a completed commission.

If you choose not to pay for the final piece, the commission will be forfeited and I may do with it as I wish.

Payments will be done through PayPal or Venmo.

    Replication:

Unless requested otherwise, commissions may be posted on Jai-dee Art social media accounts. If posted on the client’s social media, proper crediting [a link to my profile on that platform, or a link to my website] is required.

Your commission will not appear in my shop in any manner unless allowed otherwise.

    Fulfillment:

I reserve the right to refuse any commission.

Commissions are taken on a first come first serve basis.

Unless given a deadline, your commission will be done when it’s done. Please understand that your commission is likely not the only thing I am working on at the moment. You’re free to inquire about it’s progress whenever, but refrain from spamming my inbox.

    Shipping:

Once shipped, you will receive tracking information.

As soon as your package has left my hands, I am no longer responsible for its whereabouts as it’s now in the hands of the postal service. It is your responsibility to keep track of your package. This includes retrieving it from customs if necessary.

  • I reserve the right to reject any commission proposal for any reason. The following is not an exhaustive list. If you’re not sure if your proposal meets the guidelines, submit your proposal anyway and we can discuss it.
